Yankee Guide Dodger Guide

Yankee Guide > Dodger Guide

I got a semi-nice Yankee ticket promo guide in the mail the other day and it got me thinking, how many of these things did they send out?  GS and I went to a grand total of ONE Yankee game in 2007, so it’s not exactly like I should be on the George-Costanza-mass-mailing-list, right?  Seriously, how many did they mail?  A billion?  These things are 81 pages, by the way–that is longer than some books I’ve read recently.  You’d think with all of that publicity and marketing they’d at least fill up their stadium, but apparently a $2,500 price point is a bit of a deterrent, so the club has gone with what they are calling a “promotional strategy” to fill up those empties but I think “holy crap, these empty seats look terrible on TV, what should we do?!” would be apropos as well.

The good news for baseball as a whole is attendance hasn’t been nearly as bad as most feared before the season started (Bill Simmons wrote that this was going to be a doomsday season for MLB–more here) and the success of the Rays last year has given fans of perpetual doormats like KC, Pittsburgh and even the Natties reason to hope (no joke that Nationals team is going to be sick in three years, Baltimore too).  So enjoy the baseball season and remember—no matter how bad it gets it’s still light years better than the NBA Playoffs (CHI v. BOS excluded).

Oh and before I forget, can I get a yes please?
