If only I had better Excel skills/cared more, you’d clearly be able to see the three problems that are currently plaguing the Dodgers at right. The large blue section I’m hanging squarely on the shoulders of the despicable Ned Colletti and his horrifying contracts. The rest of the blame I have equally split between the injuries to star/solid ballplayers (Furcal and Penny in particular) and the slightly-harder-to-qualify NDBS factor, which stands for Normal Dodger Bull Shit, something that long-time fans have a tough time defining but certainly know it when they see it. Examples of NDBS popped up time and again during the loathsome Nationals series–lack of timely hitting, soul-sucking double plays, bullpen meltdowns, etc.
Sadly, I think the two smaller slices of pie are probably pretty strongly correlated with the ol’ blue section–Neddy’s despicable contracts and desire to sign every single available outfielder on the market has only served to retard player development and tempt the slowly-losing-it Joe Torre with a bountiful array of outfielders to chose from each day. We’re currently in the second inning of Game 1 against the Snakes…a sweep here keeps us in the hunt, dropping 2 out of 3 or getting swept (again) means I stop looking at the standings and start with individual player reports and minor-league updates. Can’t wait.
