JB vs. Street

Is this really what we’ve come to? Multiple sources are reporting the Dodgers are in the market for a new/rental closer, and word is they have sent scouts to evaluate the A’s Huston Street. Street boasts a nice pedigree, having closed for Oakland since his rookie year, but is he really any better than Big Jon Broxton? This year certainly not, as JB (even in a down year) has a significantly better ERA+ than the much more svelte Street. My biggest problem with Street is his propensity to give up the long ball. He’s already allowed 6 this year and his fastball is so straight you could use it to hang a picture. Since the whole world knows the A’s are looking to build for the future, they shouldn’t be able to ransom him for any top prospects -- but given Colletti’s reckless behavior the reports alone are scary. And is the bullpen really the biggest problem L.A. has right now? Yes, losing Saito is a blow, but don’t they have more pressing issues? After watching Kershaw get blown out of the water yesterday (no way is he ready for the Bigs at this point), Penny’s setback(s), Lowe and Kuroda’s Jekyll-and-Hyde performances, the offense disappearing like some kind of Gob Bluth illusion gone wrong … I’m pretty sure any issue the bullpen is having should be on the backburner.
