KG is even better in real life

Random thoughts from Thursday’s Game 1 of the NBA Finals, which the Boston Celtics won over the visiting Los Angeles Lakers 98-88:
  • We’ll be lucky if anyone breaks 100 in this series, which is sure to be a defensive struggle at times.
  • Paul Pierce is no Willis Reed.
  • Why was Kobe Bryant still on the bench with less than 8 minutes to go?
  • Why (so what if he had five fouls) was Lamar Odom riding pine in the waning minutes?
  • KG is the real deal, just like in NBA 95 when he used to torch Ryantific for 100 points on the T’Wolves. Doc should go to him on every possession.
  • Kobe wasn’t Kobe, going 9 of 26. I guess Ray Allen knows how to defend after all.
  • Rajon Rondo needs to stop worrying about his new Web site and sneaker commercials and practice his three-point shooting.
  • Sam Cassell is waaay old and took waaay too many shots (9). Luckily for the Celtics he made four of ’em.
  • Speaking of threes, James Posey has to do better than 1 of 5 if the Cs wanna keep winning and take any pressure of KG.
  • Odom wasn’t the only one playing hide and seek. Pau Gasol was it first.
  • Rebounding edge goes to KG and Co. in this series, 46-33 after Round 1.
  • The Celtics did what they were supposed to do, and anyone who picked the Lakers in less than seven should be sweating it.

You were lucky when KG went for 100 when we played sega. And how about the fact that pretty much everyone is counting the Lakers out. Come on people! Lakers are not going to roll over and die.

That's what happens when you have a series drawing as much attention as this one. TV ratings are up almost 40 percent from last year's Game 1 of the Finals. When that many eyes are watching, everything is magnified and blown out of proportion. The Celtics did what they were supposed to do in Game 1. Like they said in the last round, the series doesn't really get going until somebody wins on the road. The Lakers still got three home games coming, they could go down 0-2 and still be good.
